Movie star Jennifer Aniston, along with Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, recently visited the Breast Cancer Center at the Inova Alexandria Hospital in Virginia, to show support for breast cancer awareness
and the treatments performed at the center, The Huffington Post reports.
Aniston has been showing her support by way of traveling across the country debuting her short film through the Lifetime film series "Five," which depicts different women's experiences with the disease through five films.
Biden has been passionate about fighting back against the disease for over 20 years, after several of her friends were diagnosed with it. The two women were also joined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius and Kristin Hahn, the co-producer of Aniston's film project.
During the visit, they met with doctors and also listened to a group of women receiving treatment there, who spoke about their own experiences battling the disease, the news outlet reports.
Early detection can save lives, as those diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer have a five year survival rate of 88 percent, Cancer.org reports. Using star power to emphasize the importance may be key to more women scheduling annual mammography exams.
