Barbie, best known for donning pretty pink ensembles that appeal to people of all ages, is now helping to raise money for breast cancer research.
A custom-designed Barbie doll will be put up for auction at Christie's in New York on October 20 to raise funds that will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Boston Herald
reports. The doll will be sporting a a necklace that features a 1 carat pink diamond, flanked by 2 carats worth of white diamonds. She is expected to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000, which would make her the most expensive Barbie ever sold at auction.
Jeweler Stefano Canturi designed the necklace as well as the strapless black dress and stilettos the miniature fashionista will be donning. A Barbie sold at Christie's in London fetched $17,091 and is the current world record-holder.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides funding for innovative research, and also works to increase public awareness about the disease.
