Bathing suits for breast cancer survivors

Patricia Brett has a family history of breast cancer. Her aunt succumbed to the disease, her sister was diagnosed with it and both she and her cousin tested positive for carrying a gene that predisposes them to developing the illness. Now she is giving survivors of the condition support through her new swimwear line, reports.

Brett chose to have a double mastectomy before developing the disease because she didn't want to have to worry about battling it. Her niece also had the procedure done, and was disappointed that there weren't many clothing options for women who have had the surgery. That is when she created her line Veronica Brett, named after her aunt.

"I knew that if this was a need for my sister, then there were a lot of other women with the same need," she told the news source.

The bathing suit line is carried in boutiques across the country and also sold on her website. Right now the collection consists of simple one piece suits, but she plans on introducing bikinis next season. Brett has also been donating a percentage of the sales toward breast cancer research.

The American Cancer Society estimates that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.ADNFCR-2795-ID-19909944-ADNFCR
