Breast Cancer Race for the Cure to be held in Millburn
May 5, 2011
The Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure will be held on Sunday, May 15, at Archery Field in West Orange, New Jersey, according to a new report from NJ.com.
The race will raise money for breast cancer causes in several counties, including Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union, Sussex and Hudson counties. Approximately 8,000 to 10,000 participants are expected to join in the race and walk, according to the news source.
The Susan G. Komen foundation was started when one sister promised another that she would spend her life striving to eradicate the disease. Since then, the group has raised billions of dollars worldwide and become a global cause in the fight against breast cancer.
Breast cancer affects one out of every eight women in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society, and women over the age of 40 should receive yearly mammograms.
Races and events such as the one in Millburn bring people together and celebrate the strength that goes into fighting a disease like breast cancer.
