Breast cancer survivor turns to blog to lift spirits
Oct 11, 2011
Marcia Lievense of Holland, Michigan, first found out she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, and then it came back again in 2009, but she refused to let her disease bring her down. Lievense has been writing a blog titled "Marcia's Marvelous Adventures," which chronicles her life as a breast cancer survivor, and it is full of laughter and wit along with the fear that the disease brings, according to the News Tribune.
"I try to see the humor in things and not take life so seriously," Lievense told the news source. "You have to take it serious to a point, but it doesn’t have to drag you down."
Now, Lievense will be turning her blog into a book, and some of the proceeds will go to breast cancer research.
According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, it is recommended that once women turn 40 they should schedule annual mammograms. If they have an extensive family history of breast cancer, they may want to make these appointments earlier in order to catch the disease during its beginning stages.
