Breast cancer survivors create a work of art

Members of the Island Breaststrokers Dragon Boat team in British Columbia recently got together with artist Jan Henry to create an important piece of art, The Victoria Times Colonist reports.

The upcoming Victoria Dragon Boat Festival will see more than 90 teams compete, and there will also be a silent auction where the painting, Still Bloomin', will be auctioned off to raise money for the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

"The idea was borrowed from women in Calgary, where a similar work raised almost $20,000," Henry told the news source.

Each breast cancer survivor left an imprint of their breasts in pink acrylic paint, with each design looking like a flower floating in water.

The Breaststrokers have been working to raise awareness about the disease and how regular exercise may play a part in helping women who are living and recovering from breast cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors currently living residing in the United States.ADNFCR-2795-ID-19922601-ADNFCR
