Jan 12, 2012
Brides Against Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit organization based in Florida, and it is kicking off the 2012 Nationwide Tour of Gowns in Portland, Oregon, later this month.
The tour helps brides pick the perfect wedding dress while raising money to provide free educational and support services tobreast cancer patients. The organization holds around 40 shows each year.
"We were pleased to 'tie the knot' with Brides Against Breast Cancer, whose mission complements our wide-ranging cancer support services and programs," said Carl Ritter, CEO, Cancer Support Community Florida Suncoast. "Our team is looking forward to growing both organizations so that we can expand our free programs and services offering support, education and hope to cancer patients and their families."
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer. However, the death rate has been decreasing since 1990 due to advancements in research and breast cancer health news. There are currently 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
