California man gets pink haircut to raise breast cancer awareness

Red Bluff, California is hardly as funky as Los Angeles, but one of their residents is rocking a hairdo fit for the Golden State's largest city.

According to the Record Searchlight, Justin liams shaved his head in the shape of a ribbon and died it the color pink, in order to promote breast cancer awareness. He had been asked by his friend, Donna Jesmer, to help her raise money for the cause.

"For me this was a very personal matter," Jesmer told the news source. "I have a big heart but I just don't have deep pockets. I needed to create a team effort to generate support."

The courageous liams had his new do created by Melissa Bechtel of Split Endz hair salon. She also dyed his goatee bright neon pink.

According to California Breast Cancer Research Program, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the state every 24 minutes. The organization also emphasizes early detection, which can increase survival rates up to 95 percent.
