Canidae Natural Pet Food Co. of San Luis Obispo, California has spearheaded a fundraising initiative called the Pink Ribbon
Puppy project, DogChannel.com
reports. The pet food manufacturer has donated funds to print calendars in varying sizes to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The Pink Ribbon Puppies project started off as simply an idea of two friends to breed a litter of yellow Labrador Retrievers. Unfortunately, one of the friends was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before the puppies were born, which inspired them to create the calendar to benefit breast cancer research.
"This project is in honor of my friend, all the women who have fought before her and for those who will take the same path in years to come," says the project's creator who wishes to remain anonymous.
The items available include a 12-by-9 inch wall calendars for $20 or a 6-by-4 inch mini calendar for $10, both of which feature the litter of nine puppies.
All proceeds go The Breast Cancer Research foundation, a non-profit organization that funds research and awareness about good breast health.
According to the American Cancer Society, women should begin yearly breast cancer screening at age 40.
