Christmas trees support breast cancer

The holiday season just a got a bit more pink as one local event will be focusing on raising awareness for breast cancer.

KCSG.com reports that the 30th Anniversary of the Jubilee of Trees, one of the largest custom tree showcases between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, will feature more pink this year on the large decorations.

The first event was organized in 1981 by the Pink Ladies, a group of volunteers from the Dixie Regional Medical Center. They began with a single tree which they displayed in the lobby of a hotel. The showcase has grown over the past decades and has supported children's health causes, but this year they're taking a special focus on breast cancer.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the medical center and focus on breast cancer care. The custom designed trees will be decked out in pink lights and ribbons, but there will also be miniature trees, wreaths and even gingerbread houses all taking on the pink theme.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors currently living in the U.S.
