Community stages Yoga-Thon to benefit yoga instructor with breast cancer

Lindsay McLaughlin has always paid attention to her body, as the 29-year-old is a yoga and ski instructor who is aware of the mind-body connection, according to the Sky-Hi Daily News.

McLaughlin, who has been practicing yoga in Colorado for six years, will need to use her knowledge of health and meditation now more than ever before, as the young woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and is scheduled to undergo surgery and begin radiation therapy next week, the news source reports.

To support McLuaghlin and raise money for her treatments, her friends, co-workers and students are coming together for a Yoga-Thon in Winter Park, Colorado, this Friday.

"It's about spreading awareness of breast cancer, the healing of yoga and the healing within," she told the news provider. "As soon as I found out I had breast cancer, I decided to take a positive look at it - to do something I'm passionate about and to do something to bring everyone together."

The American Cancer Society recommends that women over the age of 40 begin to have annual breast cancer screenings, and encourages women as young as 20 to perform self breast exams.
