The Hope Afloat USA, a dragon boat team whose members are breast cancer survivors, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
Hope Afloat is the oldest breast cancer survivor dragon boat team that competes in races across the country. Its members come from Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, and the team's coach is also a breast cancer survivor.
"Hope Afloat encourages survivors, regardless of age or athletic ability, to 'awaken the dragon within' by providing them with hope, support, camaraderie and adventure," says the group, whose mission is to promote positive spiritual, physical and emotional lives in breast cancer survivors through the teamwork of dragon boat racing.
The team is based in Philadelphia and among its members, there is a total of 266 years worth of cancer survival.
According to the teams' official website, there are weekly practices as well as monthly meetings. Those interested in joining the team can contact their membership coordinators and anyone who is a breast cancer survivor can join regardless of experience and age.
