October is breast cancer awareness month and various events are being planned across the country. In Joliet, Illinois, people are getting ready for the annual walk to fight against breast cancer, according to Morris Daily Herald.
"For the American Cancer Society, pink ribbons aren't just an October occurrence; they're a year-round commitment," Dr. Katherine L. Griem, president of the American Cancer Society's Illinois Division. "We 'Pink Differently' by helping breast cancer patients in communities across Illinois every day of the year."
The walk will take place on October 2, as people from across the state and country will take part in the fight against breast cancer. There is approximately 250 walks scheduled for this year, the media outlet reports.
According to the Susan G. Komen organization, it is recommended that once a woman turns 40 she schedules annual mammograms. This is especially important for women with extensive histories of breast cancer, and if they do, they might want to start scheduling appointments earlier in order to catch it during its beginning stages.
