New Jersey firefighters received a little heat and were close to getting in trouble for donning pink T-shirts, which are to spread breast cancer awareness
throughout the month of October, according to CNN.
The T-shirts have been quite a hit among the firefighters, but they only had one rule they needed to follow - do not wear them in place of the uniform. Some firefighters were not doing so, and were proudly showcasing the T-shirts without anything over them. Administrators urged them to follow orders as they do not want any one to be unaware that they are firefighters, according to the news source.
They did come to a compromise, however. The firefighters are allowed to wear the pink T-shirts, they just have to go under the standard uniform, the media outlet reports.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during her lifetime. The disease is the second most common form of cancer among women, following only skin cancer.
