Fred Meyer campaign in Boise, Idaho, raises $45,000 for breast cancer research

Retail supermarket company Fred Meyer has written a check for $45,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in support of breast cancer research and awareness, according to the NorthWest Cable News from Boise, Idaho.

Shoppers joined Fred Meyer in its yearly "Giving Hope a Hand" campaign last autumn, to raise money for Susan G. Komen.

Special items throughout the supermarket were marked to indicate that part of the revenue for the product would go towards the donation.

Part of the money raised will go to a Breast Cancer Symposium initiative as well as other education and awareness programs.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), mammograms are recommended for early detection of breast cancer. The ACS recommended yearly mammograms for women over 40, and each mammogram should take about 20 minutes. The ACS recommends going to a facility that conducts many mammograms each day.

Recent research has shown that the more frequently radiologists read mammograms in their practice, the more accurate they become in their diagnoses.
