Free breast cancer screenings to be held on July 28
Jun 17, 2011
From now until June 24, the Mercy Medical Center in northern California is offering registration for women to receive free breast cancer screenings. Those who qualify would receive free screenings on July 28 at the Mercy Regional Cancer Center. The program is open for women over the age of 40.
According to the American Cancer Society, all women over the age of 40 should receive yearly mammograms.
"Early detection is critical in treating breast cancer," according to the news report.
Mammograms are a one way to find possibly cancerous tumors along with breast self examinations, and there will be an education session sponsored by an oncology nurse at Mercy on the day of the free screenings.
More than 200,000 women were newly diagnosed with breast cancer last year, while almost 2,000 men were also found to have the illness. The disease is the second most common form of cancer in the U.S., after skin cancer.
Interested participants can contact Mercy Medical Center Redding to see if they qualify for the free screenings.
