Fundraiser held for basketball coach who suffers from breast cancer
Sep 6, 2011
An event and fundraiser has been scheduled for assistant basketball coach, Jenny Miller, who is suffering from breast cancer in Celina, Texas, according to Star Local News.
The 35-year-old coach was diagnosed with the disease last year, and has received a double mastectomy and hormone therapy. However, now she needs chemotherapy and is not covered by a major medical insurance company. So, her community decided to rally around her and put forth a fundraiser in her honor, according to the news source.
The event will take place on October 8, and will be complete with an auction, food and live music. All of the proceeds that are donated during this event will go to Miller in order for her to pay for the breast cancer treatment, and hopefully save her life, the media outlet reports.
According to the Susan G. Komen organization, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, surpassed by only lung cancer. However, the death rate has been decreasing since 1990, due to breakthrough breast cancer news and advancements in research.
