Giuliana Rancic recovers from double mastectomy
Dec 15, 2011
E! host Giuliana Rancic underwent her double mastectomy this week and is doing well, according to US Weekly.
Giuliana was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and opted for the double mastectomy after the double lumpectomy did not get all of the cancer. She and her husband Bill have been very public about the process. The two are both eager for the new year.
"There's something really symbolic about starting out the new year like this," Bill told the news source. "I always tell Giuliana, once the clock strikes midnight, we're taking the rear view mirror off the car and we're not looking back because we're going to be done. No looking over her shoulder, no worries. We can start living life."
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime. Not only is it the second most common form of cancer among women behind skin cancer, but it is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer.
