A breast cancer sufferer who received care at Southampton General Hospital has nominated nurses Emma Bourne, Kye Squire, Caroline Evans and Catherine Walsh for the Daily Echo's Hospital Heroes Award for their professional care throughout her treatment, according to the Daily Echo
Breast cancer survivor Carol Brimson was diagnosed with breast cancer in November after a cyst was found on her breast. She was devastated and and did not know where to turn. Brimson credits her recovery to the care of the four Southampton nurses who guided her through each step of treatment with patience and compassion.
"I simply do not know how I would have coped without them," Brimson told the news source. "Just knowing that someone is on the end of a phone helps so much and they are not just there for the patients, they take time with family members too," she said.
The nurses were modest about their award and noted that their occupation is a team effort that requires the assistance of many health care professionals.
According to BreastCancer.org, a woman's risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative who has been diagnosed with the disease.
