High school students partner with yogurt shop to fight breast cancer
Jun 8, 2011
Katie Lofblad and Tali Peretti attend Wellesley High School and partnered with Truly Yogurt in order to raise money for the Avon Foundation for Women and Breast Cancer, according to The Wellesley Report.
The girls organized the collaboration with the ice cream and frozen yogurt shop as their senior project.
"The main reason we’ve chosen this cause is because cancer, in one form or another, has affected many of our friends and family members. The Avon Foundation also runs a walk for Breast Cancer every year in Boston. Tali and I participated a few years ago and were inspired by the positive energy from all of the walkers and volunteers that day," Lofblad told the news source.
She and Peretti plan to participate in this year's walk as well.
It is not uncommon for someone in the U.S. to have had a first-hand or second-hand encounter with breast cancer, which affects one out of eight women in America, according to BreastCancer.org. Many people have seen a loved one receive a breast cancer diagnosis and there are many fundraisers and community events throughout the country aiming to promote awareness for the disease.
