Huge attendance for Three-Day Walk, millions raised

The Susan G. Komen Michigan Three-Day for the Cure ended this past Monday, and supports and organization leaders are extremely impressed with the amount of money that was raised for the hope of breast cancer breakthroughs news - $4.1 million, according to the Observer and Eccentric.
"We are so thankful for Michigan's continued support of our mission to end breast cancer," Sheri Phillips, national spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen Three-Day for the Cure, said in a statement. "This is our eighth successful event in Michigan, and we are excited to announce the 3-Day for the Cure will return to this amazing city for the 2012 series."
Since the start of the fundraiser, the three-day event has raised nearly $600 million across the country, and it has all gone to breast cancer research, the media outlet reports.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will suffer from breast cancer at one point during their lifetimes. It is the second leading cancer related death among women, second only to lung cancer.
