A Philadelphia federal judge has ruled in favor of Brianna Hawk, 13, and Kayla Martinez, 12, who can now freely wear bracelets to school that say 'I (heart) Boobies (Keep a Breast)' in support of breast cancer awareness
The Easton Area Middle School which forbid the girls from wearing the bracelets to school and has been ordered to cease the ban.
"There's no group more distractible than 12- to 14-year-old middle school boys," said John E. Freund III, the district attorney who defended the school district in the lawsuit, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Freund said that he was disappointed in the judge's ruling.
Conversely, the organization that distributes the bracelets, called Keep a Breast Foundation, were very supportive of the ruling.
"We're extremely excited by the judge's decision," Kimmy McAtee, a marketing manager for the foundation, told the news source.
The non-profit organization aims at increasing awareness for breast cancer in women under the age of 30. All women over the age of 40 are encouraged to have yearly mammograms but breast cancer is also known to affect those younger than 40.
