The Susan G. Komen affiliate in Sacramento will be honoring its best contributors and volunteers to help in the fight against breast cancer on October 9, according to the Sacramento Press.
"We are fortunate to have the support of outstanding community partners during my tenure as executive director of Komen Sacramento" Donna Sanderson, the executive director of the Komen affiliate, told the news source. "The time has come to give them the public recognition they so richly deserve."
The awards will be presented during the Gala for the Cure event, which is full of auctions, live performances, music and dinner. Each of the honorees have helped raise money for the cause in the Sacramento area in hopes of one day finding positive breast cancer health news, the media outlet reports.
According to the American Cancer Society, it is recommended that once women turn 40 years old, they should schedule annual mammograms. If a woman has an extensive family history of breast cancer, they may want to start making appointments earlier, in order to catch it in the beginning stages.
