Land for national park secured in 2012

The African Wildlife Foundation and their partners at The Nature Conservancy completed the purchase of 17,100 acres of vital wildlife corridors in Kenya this year.

Formerly a privately held ranch, these nature preserve has  been donated to the Kenyan Government for the benefit of all Kenyans, and will soon become a new national park to be called Laikipia National Park.

The new park will give wide ranging wildlife like elephants, lions, and zebra the ability to move safely through open habitat that is not bisected by roads, fences, and other forms of development. The creation of the proposed Laikipia National Park will benefit local communities by bolstering the eco- tourism based economy.

GreaterGood.org donations made possible by the Gifts That Give More program helped with the purchase of this critical wildlife corridor.
