There were 7,271 participants in Team Limited Brands, according to The Columbus Dispatch. What made this team unique was that all of its members were dedicated to beating breast cancer and together, Team Limited Brands took part in the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure.
"Breast cancer is a cause that's close to many of us at Limited Brands. With our associates, it's just become a part of our culture," said Janelle Simmons, who is the director of community relations.
The team was composed of more than 90 percent women and Limited Brands is the largest breast cancer team in the history of the Komen Race for the Cure.
Limited Brands helped employees and their guests pay for the registration fee of participating in Race for the Cure, and this year spent more than $200,000 covering these costs.
Many of the women were thankful to be part of a team that is fighting for an end to breast cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 200,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed each year with breast cancer. The numbers add up to about one in eight women who will have the disease at some point in her lifetime.
