Man bikes 634 miles in honor of wife's death from breast cancer

Manuel Rodriguez lost his wife, Lucy, to breast cancer this year, and the 64-year-old is planning to bike 634 miles from San Antonio, Texas, to Alamogordo, New Mexico, in honor of his wife, according to a report from KASA News.

Rodriguez will be trailed by a truck, driven by friend. He is hoping to raise money in order to fight breast cancer.

More then 200,000 women are newly diagnosed with breast cancer each year in America. Breast cancer affects not only those diagnosed by the illness, but also their families, friends and other loved ones.

Rodriguez's aim is to raise a minimum of $5,000.

Across the countries, other people who wish to join in the fight against breast cancer are taking to the streets to participate in Race for the Cure fundraiser walks, as well as other events sponsored by companies such as Avon and smaller local organizations.

Women over the age of 40 can protect themselves from the effects of breast cancer by receiving yearly mammogram screenings, according to BreastCancer.org, while younger women can perform regular self-breast exams and visit the doctor's office for clinical exams as well.
