Martina McBride hosts pink event

Singer Martina McBride is taking part in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by holding a private show and benefit titled "Martina McBride: Light Up the Sky," as she not only recognizes the hardships of the disease but showcases them through her new album, according to Reuters.

McBride's current single, "I'm Gonna Love You Through It," is based on the life of Lily Isaacs, who has been a breast cancer survivor for the past 27 years.

"My first thought was, 'I wonder if people will be uncomfortable when they hear this' because the writers use words that aren't typically found in songs," McBride told the news source. "My next thought was, 'it would be pretty brave to record a song like this,' and then I thought, 'I'm recording this song.' All that went through my head in about 15 seconds."

According to the Susan G. Komen organization, it is recommended that once a woman turns 40, she schedules annual mammograms. If a woman has an extensive family history of the disease, she should start making these appointments earlier to ensure that they catch it during the beginning stages.
