Actress Maura Tierney, who left her job last summer after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, announced on Wednesday that she has returned to health and will reappear on the show in 2011.
Tierney, who is best known for her longtime role on NBC's ER, was forced to back out of the filming for the network's new comedy Parenthood to undergo cancer treatment, the Associated Press reports.
The star will now resume her role on the show Rescue Me, which appears on FX, as the love interest of Denis Leary's firefighter character, the network announced.
Her spokeswoman, Christina Papadopoulos, said that Tierney "has finished her treatment and is doing very well and his happy to move forward with the next phase of her life."
For the next phase, the 45-year-old actress will film four episodes in the seventh and final season of Rescue Me, which is scheduled to air in 2011.
According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among American women, but relative survival rates have been rising, reaching 89.1 percent by 2005.
