Montana Oktoberfest goes pink

The second annual Oktoberfest at the Bitterroot Brewery in Ravalli County, Montana, will take place this weekend, and it is incorporating breast cancer awareness into its celebration, according to the news channel KPAX-TV.

The event, which will contain German music, food and plenty to drink, will be asking for a 50 cent donation to help in the fight against breast cancer. The funds will go to the Aid for Mammography Fund, which provides local women with the resources they need to receive an annual mammogram, according to the news source.

In addition, the local Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital will match the donations, which will also go to the local fund. The town is urging its residents to come out and help the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime. This disease is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer. However, the fatality rate has been decreasing since 1990 due to research advancements.
