Rashad McCants gives his all on the basketball court, but he is now putting that effort behind a new foundation to help those battling breast cancer.
McCants has been personally affected by the disease. His mother is a breast cancer survivor, and her determination to beat the condition prompted him to work on behalf of others who have survived or are undergoing treatment by starting the Shoot for the Cure Foundation.
"My mother's survival is so important to me. I have to do all I can to show my love and support for her. She has always been there for me and now is the time for me to do the same for her, she has made tremendous sacrifices for my well being over the years," said McCants.
The goal of the foundation is to bring awareness to the public about the disease, educating families of survivors, supporting events that promote awareness and to raise money for research. The organization also promotes the idea of early detection as being important in the battle against breast cancer.
The American Caner Society estimates that there are over 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States today.
