New Hampshire to host its first Race for the Cure
Nov 29, 2011
It was recently announced that New Hampshire will be hosting its first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure next year, according to the Boston Globe.
The date is set for May 12, 2012, and the race will take place in Portsmouth's Strawbery Banke. Previously, New Hampshire has partnered with the Vermont affiliate of the national group, which has raised $7.5 million since 1993, but this will be the first time that the race is held in New Hampshire, according to the news source.
This group has raised and invested more than $1.9 billion to fight against breast cancer, as it has gone from city to city, hosting walks and promoting awareness, the media outlet reports.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during her lifetime. Not only is it the second most common form of cancer among women behind skin cancer, but it is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer.
