It was recently announced that Ohio Sat Univesrity will rename the JamesCare Comprehensive Breast Center in honor of Stefanie Spielman, who lost her battle to breast cancer at 42 in 2009, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Spielman had four children with her husband, former football star Chris Spielman. Once she was diagnosed, she used her high profile to raise money for breast cancer.
"I know there's a reason God gave me breast cancer, and I'm supposed to do something with it," she said in 2009, according to the news provider.
Due to her mission and her drive, she was able to raise $9.1 million for breast cancer research and education at the Ohio State University's Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, the media outlet reports.
According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, it is recommended that once a woman turns 40 shes should schedule annual mammograms. If the woman has an extensive family history of the disease, she may want to start making these appointments earlier, in case the disease develops.
