One Massachusetts woman raises $15,000 for breast cancer awareness

When Lynn Colbert had a close friend diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, she was understandably shaken.

Since then, the Malden, Massachusetts, resident has channeled her energy into finding a cure. According to the Boston Globe, this summer will mark Colbert's fourth time walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk, and by the time she crosses the finish line, she will have raised over $15,000 total.

"I would love to get the phone call next year telling me that a cure for breast cancer has been found and the walk has been canceled," Colbert told the news source. "But until that day comes I will keep walking."

Colbert is hoping to raise at least $10,000 this year alone. She will also be holding a fundraiser at a local pizza restaurant on May 5, where patrons can enjoy raffle contests and indulge in pizza and wings.

The 3-Day for the Cure is a walk that takes place over the course of a long weekend. Participants walk 60 miles and fundraise for breast cancer awareness.
