Paint Reading Pink starts in October
Aug 12, 2011
The Breast Cancer Campaign in the UK has picked the town of Reading for their Paint the Town Pink for the third consecutive year. It will start in October, and local shops and stores will be supporting the cause for breast cancer health news by displaying pink ribbons. There will also be a series of fundraisers that will take place turning the month.
"I really enjoy volunteering and being part of a team who are helping find a cure for breast cancer," said Annie Gillett, a Reading volunteer. "Last year I helped by collecting donations at the Oracle and this year I am doing more planning and organising fundraising events. We need the help of more volunteers to turn the town pink and raise more money to help fund research into the disease."
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime. The disease is the second leading cancer related death among women, second only to lung cancer.
