Pet owners need extra help during Hurricane Irene

GreaterGood.org’s charitable partners provide peace of mind for pet owners at times of natural disaster. As seen in the video below, the Humane Society of the United States sets up temporary shelters for evacuated pets as well as engages in animal rescues.

Following Hurricane Irene, rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare mobilized to Cobleskill, New York, to conduct small and large animal water rescue operations in flooded areas.

Responding to a request from the State of New York, IFAW deployed two trained water rescue teams and a 36-foot rescue trailer - funded by a grant from Petfinder.com Foundation - carrying boats, dog crates, capture equipment, and other supplies.

"Irene is not done with us yet. At least 30 stranded horses need our help right now and we know a large number of companion animals will also need rescue, food and shelter," said Dr. Dick Green, IFAW’s Disaster Manager.

GreaterGood.org supports these and other Hurricane Irene rescue efforts through the Gifts That Give More program and both IFAW and Petfinder.com Foundation through the "Click Here To Give" program at The Animal Rescue Site.
