Planet Fitness donates over $200,000 for breast cancer research

It looks like Planet Fitness, a health club with scores of locations all over the United States, is taking even further actions to benefit women's health. The popular gym has given $213,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

The promotion, which took place at the beginning of May in order to commemorate Mother's Day, saw the donation of $10 for every person that signed up for a membership during that time.

"The Mother's Day promotion was an awesome way to give back to the community," said Sharon Lomasney, a Planet Fitness franchisee. "So many lives have been touched and affected by breast cancer."

Over 118 clubs participated in nine different markets, and more than 21,000 people signed up for a membership.

"Everyone was very receptive to this cause and I hope we commit to a pink shirt event at least once a year" Lomasney said.

The partnership of Planet Fitness and breast cancer research is likely to be an important one. According to the Mayo Clinic, maintaining a regular fitness routine may reduce a person's chance of being diagnosed with the disease.ADNFCR-2795-ID-19788309-ADNFCR
