Ray Romano and wife support breast cancer research after wife's diagnosis

One year ago, Ray Romano's wife Anna of 24 years was diagnosed with breast cancer, and they immediately devoted themselves to her recovery, according to People Magazine.

"We were blessed and didn't have to worry, 'Does insurance cover this?'" Ray told the news source. "We want to give that [peace of mind] to other women."

Once Anna completed her treatment and started with her five-year tamoxifen prescription, they started to look at charities. Even though there were so many to chose from, the Romanos chose two to donate money and their time to - one based in New York City and the other Los Angeles. The New York City organization brings mobile mammograms to women in all five boroughs. The Los Angeles organization offers free mammograms and exams to women, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during her lifetime. It is recommended that once a woman turns 40, she schedules annual mammograms to ensure she does not have the disease.
