Carly Fiorina, a candidate for the senate seat for California, is certainly hoping to take her career in a new direction. However, it's safe to say the woman is looking to close one specific chapter in her life.
The courageous woman, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2009, just had reconstructive surgery this past week, according to Mercury News
"Carly is in good spirits," said Deborah Bowker, her chief of staff. "She is thankful to her family, friends and the many people who have supported her throughout this successful battle. A quick recovery is expected, and Carly is looking forward to being back on the campaign trail in a matter of days."
Since Fiorina's diagnosis, she has undergone a double mastectomy, several rounds of chemotherapy and many radiation treatments. Thankfully, she is currently cancer free.
The news source reports that her illness has inspired her to comment on the current health care reform issue.
"I battled cancer last year, I've seen the health care system up close," Fiorina said to the press last week.
The American Cancer Society advises all woman over the age of 40 to undergo a monthly mammogram.
