Some people run marathons in order to raise money and awareness for a good cause, but Oleus Lilly is going above and beyond that. KLTV.com
reports that the 31-year-old Texas native plans to trek from Fort Worth to Longview in the southern state, a distance of around 208 miles.
While Lilly's goal seems extreme, he explains that the memory of someone special to him serves as inspiration.
"My grandmother," he told the news outlet. "She was the rock of my life. She passed away with complications due to breast cancer three or four years ago. She always joked that I'd run across Texas because I'm always running."
Lilly, who is giving himself 27 days to complete the task, will be donating all the money he raised to the American Cancer Society.
"One day, I was like, 'I'm not doing anything. I'm not fulfilled at work. I want to make a difference. Why not now?" he told the news outlet.
The American Cancer Society reports that a woman has a one in eight chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during her lifetime.
