Sales of bridal gowns benefit breast cancer patients

Fran Hansen has had two false positive test results after discovering a lump in her breasts. She has not battled breast cancer, but those results pushed her to start an organization that helped grant wishes for women who have been diagnosed with the disease, the Lawrence Journal-World reports.

Hansen started the Making Memories organization, and an offshoot of that is the Brides Against Cancer event. She owned several bridal shops, so she began to hold the events across the country, with the proceeds going to help women who are terminally ill with cancer.

The money raised from the sale of the dresses goes to help grant a wish for the women and their families.

"Most of our wish recipients have small children," Brenda Chovanak, director of the event, told the news source, "so we get lots of requests for trips to Disneyland or Disney World, because they don't want the kids to just remember mom or dad as being sick."

The chances of a woman being diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime is one in eight, according to the American Cancer Society.ADNFCR-2795-ID-19927063-ADNFCR
