Frank Alvarado fulfilled a lifelong dream of founding his very own skateboarding company and soon after began to take on the fight against breast cancer.
Alvarado lost his dear friend, Katy McKenzie, to breast cancer two years ago. The Manteca Bulletin
reports that because of this, he decided to hold a fundraiser that would benefit Board for Breast Cancer.
He sought the help of his friends and together they created one-of-a-kind skateboards that were auctioned off. Last year, which was the inaugural event, they raised more than $2,300. It was such a success that Alvarado is holding another fundraiser this year.
He told the news provider that the skateboard is so popular that he had to turn some people away because he didn't have enough for everyone.
"Skateboarding is something that means a lot to me, and so does this cause, and I'm glad to be able to put both of them together and hopefully make a difference in the fight against this disease," he told the news outlet.
According to the American Cancer Society, the chances of a woman developing breast cancer in her lifetime is one in eight.
