Tampa breast cancer survivor starts website to help women

JoJo Ruby-White is a breast cancer survivor, but that doesn't mean the woman didn't struggle with the disease. The Tampa, Florida-area resident, who was given the startling diagnosis in July 2009, opted to have a mastectomy and soon turned to the internet for support, according to WTSP News.

However, Ruby-White was shocked to discover information about the procedure and reconstruction surgery was limited. That's when she decided to create her own website, My Mastectomy Online.

"I am simply a recent breast cancer survivor, one woman on a mission, to give the information I couldn't find when I needed it to those who need it now," Ruby-White told the news outlet.

The full-time mom is now a strong competitor in the Pepsi Refresh Project, which could win her a $25,000 grant. She is currently ranked 186 out of more than 1,200 applicants, and needs to be in the top 10 to be awarded the money.

Ruby-White's website also offers breast cancer patients tips and advice on battling the disease, and includes pointers from other survivors.ADNFCR-2795-ID-19922183-ADNFCR
