The 16-year-old Lottie Rand started a charity for her mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago. Her mother, Fiona, survived but recently was dianogsed with another form of cancer. Lottie has raised thousands in her efforts, and continues to do so, according to the media outlet.
"So far, the response has been excellent – my friends have been brilliantly supportive and I’ve got to know lots of new people who are keen to help out too," Rand told the news source. "Everyone agrees that this is a really worthwhile and important cause."
According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, it is recommended that once a women turns 40 she should schedule annual mammograms. Those who have an extensive history of the disease may want to make these appointments earlier to ensure that if they do have the disease that it is caught during its beginning stages.
