The Red Devils help breast cancer patients and families
Feb 9, 2012
The Red Devils, an organization focused on helping breast cancer patients and families, is hosting a series of events in February to help raise money for research.
The fundraising events, including a 5K Run and Stroll, a Mardi Gras celebration and a chili cook-off, all provide the general public with an opportunity to donate for breast cancer research and support.
The organization started with two families of women who lost their battle to the disease. Now, the Red Devils help breast cancer patients get to treatments, pay their co-payments on medicine, bring them healthy meals and groceries and get them therapeutic massages. It doesn't end with the patient, they also help out the family in any way that they can.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will eventually be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during her lifetime. Not only is this the second most common form of cancer among women behind skin cancer, but it is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer.
