Think pink with Checker Cab
Oct 7, 2011
To show its support for those fighting against breast cancer, Checker Cab company is offering free rides to breast cancer patients needing to get to doctor's appointments throughout October - Breast Cancer Awareness month, The Baltimore Sun reports.
Those in the Baltimore area can take advantage of this new promotion, though the company needs 24 hours notice to be able to pick an individual up. People who call may even have the chance to ride in the bright pink painted cab, which further promotes awareness to all who see it.
"Every time a passenger rides in our pink vehicle, from October 1 through October 31, they’ll know they are riding in a vehicle that is helping to raise funds in the fight against breast cancer," Checker Cab general manager Navin Dass told the publication.
The company is also pledging to donate $200 to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.
Seeing a hot-pink cab may prompt women to get mammography exams as early diagnoses of breast cancer leads to higher survival rates. According to Cancer.org, those diagnosed in stage 1 have a five-year survival rate of 88 percent.
