Wedding at hospital for mother with breast cancer

Amy Wallenberg and Michael Percival were married at the chapel at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Amy's mother, Patricia, has been battling breast cancer for years and has been planning her daughter's wedding since Amy became engaged last Thanksgiving.

However, after a grueling week at the hospital, the family decided to move their summer wedding to the small hospital chapel, with their most beloved family and friends attending.

"This wedding is all her mom has been looking forward to for several months," Percival, the new groom, told the news source.

Following the official ceremony, Patricia and Ken Wallenberg, Amy's parents, renewed their vows again after being married for 44 years.

"This morning she looked the best she's looked in a long time," Dr. David Rosi, Wallenberg's oncologist, told the news outlet.

Wallenberg may even be able to go home in a few days.

Breast cancer affects more than 200,000 new patients in the United States each year. Families and friends of breast cancer patients and survivors often join in support of breast cancer awareness through nonprofit organizations such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
