Wichita organizations to receive $40,000 from Komen

The E.C. Tyree Health Clinic and the Witness Project of Kansas will together receive about $40,000 in grant money from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation in support of breast cancer education and outreach programs, according to a recent report in the Wichita Business Journal.
In total, nine organizations in the state of Kansas will receive $381,736 of combined funding.
The E.C. Tyree Health Clinic will focus on outreach programs, receiving $23,425 in aid from Komen. The Witness Project of Kansas is geared towards education among African Americans and breast cancer health. They will be given $16,920 from Susan G. Komen.
About one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. This rate is consistent with other developed nations. Women over the age of 40 are strongly encouraged to receive yearly mammograms, in order to detect cancer at the earlier possible time.
