Winter X Games athletes donate to charity before events begin
Jan 20, 2012
A joint charity event will be held by both The V Foundation and Boarding for Breast Cancer the night before the Winter X Games begins, and the athletes and guests to the event will donate to various cancers during a silent auction, according to ESPN.
"We couldn't be more excited to team up with The V Foundation and Boarding for Breast Cancer once again for this terrific evening," ESPN's Chris Stiepock, vice president of content and sponsorship development, said in a release. "We thank Aspen and the entire community for their continuous support, and I can't think of a better way to kick off Winter X Games 2012 than raising money for a great cause."
This marks the fourth year in which this event has taken place.
According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, it is recommended that once a woman turns 40, she should schedule annual mammograms. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, behind lung cancer. However, the death rate has been decreasing since 1990 due to awareness and advancements in research.
