Woman uses cupcakes to battle breast cancer

If there's anyone who has a sweet tooth, it's Kathleen Nevin. The Denver, Colorado resident and owner of the Big Fat Cupcake shop has spent most of her life whipping up a bevy of delectable creations.

Now, Nevin is using her baking skills to contribute to a commendable cause, 9News.com reports. Her Big Fat Cupcake Foundation donates a portion of the sales from her shop to breast cancer patients in financial strain.

For Nevin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, the issue lies extremely close to her heart.

"On the worst days, I would say 'I have to go into the kitchen and make cupcakes tonight,'" she told the news source. "Then, I would package them in these gorgeous boxes and put a ribbon on them and leave them at people's doors."

At the time, Nevin had also enjoyed a successful career as an acupuncturist. Because of this, she wasn't allowed any grants and eventually foreclosed on her home.

Kathleen is determined to help similar women out there.

"My full time job now is to make sure nobody loses a home after a cancer diagnosis," she told the news outlet.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are currently 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.
