Help our heroes find the homes they deserve. Make your donation of $5 or more an ongoing gift by checking the "Make this a Monthly Gift" box before adding it to your cart, and you will be helping to house homeless veterans each and every month.
Around 40,000 soldiers are currently abandoned on the streets of the United States, where some have been robbed, beaten, and even lost their lives. Often all that stands between them and a home of their own is the deposit. But as most chronically homeless veterans do not have jobs or income to cover that required cost, they remain on the streets.
There is ready housing for many of the chronically homeless veterans on our streets. Partnered with HUD and the VA, Veterans Matter's cloud-based referral system allows the veteran's VA case manager to secure a deposit for the veteran in mere minutes. Veterans Matter writes the deposit check directly to the landlord, guaranteeing a 100% success rate in moving the veteran or veteran family across the threshold and into the ready and available permanent housing.
Veterans Matter is a program of 1Matters.org, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. 1Matters.org works to help all of those on the streets, not just veterans, obtain domestic autonomy. We focus always at the root solution. For Veterans Matter, that is the deposit. Your money immediately and exclusively helps move veterans off the streets and into ready housing. We view Veterans Matter not as a perpetual charity, but as a two-year mission to accomplish one task: help house 8,000 chronically homeless veterans this year and next.
With the help of John Mellencamp, Dusty Hill, ZZ Top and others in the music industry, Veterans Matter seamlessly integrates the VA & HUD with local communities, foundations, corporations, and veterans groups to channel their support exclusively, directly and immediately to move local chronically-homeless veterans off the streets and into readily available, permanent, supported housing. Once housed, the VA's case managers then work individually to return the veteran to domestic autonomy.
Report from the Field
Thanks to your generous donations here, the program has been able to assist in housing 42 veterans and their families (a total of 67 people no longer living in the streets or in shelters)! Of those 67 individuals, 19 were children. Children who now have a place to call home.
One particular veteran and his family had been homeless for a year and were living in a travel trailer with no running water. The children were 10 and 14, the 14 year old had recently attempted suicide and was in the hospital. The veteran was an 18 year Army veteran who had been medically discharged and was fighting for VA disability. The assistance they received from the organization afforded them the ability to move in to a place they could call home! The family has been stable since then, and it allowed the veteran to focus his energy on his medical and mental health.
